During winter, the silos can be filled by harvesting hay with the scythe or buying it from marnie. Auto feeders are unlocked when barns/coops are upgraded to deluxe. If your silo is full, and you still have a coop or barn that has not fully been upgraded, you can pull all hay from the hay hopper (in coop or barn) and store that hay in a chest.
